چکیده

Background EuroSCORE has been proposed to identify patients at high risk for surgical aortic valve replacement and estimate for them the risk-benefit of percutaneous implantation. However, it has been clearly demonstrated that this system overestimates mortality, particularly in the elderly population undergoing surgery for aortic valve replacement. An actualized model called EuroSCORE II has been recently proposed to predict mortality after cardiac surgery but it has not been validated yet in the elderly population undergoing aortic valve replacement. We aimed to validate the new risk model in an octogenarian population who underwent surgery for aortic valve replacement in our center.

Performance of euroscore ii compared with its predecessors in octogenarian patients undergoing aortic valve replacement

Background/Introduction Logistic EuroSCORE overestimates the risk profile of octogenarians undergoing aortic valve replacement by traditional surgery. EuroSCORE II, that was created in an attempt to improve this previous version, has been evaluated in the general population. However, to our knowledge, there are no studies evaluating the predictive performance of EuroSCORE II in the elderly popu...

Aortic valve replacement for severe aortic stenosis in octogenarians: patient outcomes and comparison of operative risk scores.

INTRODUCTION AND AIM Isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR) in octogenarians is associated with increased operative risk, due to higher prevalence of associated risk factors and other comorbidities, making outcome prediction essential. We sought to analyze operative mortality and morbidity and to compare the predictive accuracy of the logistic European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluat...

Performance of EuroSCORE II in octogenarians with comorbidities undergoing aortic valve replacement

Method All octogenarians who underwent aortic valve replacement between 2009 and 2015 in our center were analyzed. Creatinine clearance was assessed using CockroftGault formula as recommended for authors of EuroSCORE II. Severe renal insufficiency was considered when the creatinine clearance was <50 ml/min as indicated in EuroSCORE II. Ventricular dysfunction was considered when the left ventri...

Performance of EuroSCORE II in a large US database: implications for transcatheter aortic valve implantation.

OBJECTIVES Validation studies of European system for cardiac operative risk evaluation II (EuroSCORE II) have been limited to European datasets. Therefore, the aims of this study were to assess the performance of EuroSCORE II in a large multicentre US database, and compare it with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Predicted Risk of Mortality (STS-PROM). In addition, implications for patient sele...

Overestimation of the operative risk by the EuroSCORE also in high-risk patients undergoing aortic valve replacement with a stentless biological prosthesis.

BACKGROUND The EuroSCORE generally overestimates the risk of standard aortic valve replacement (AVR). The predictive value of this risk algorithm for high-risk patients undergoing stentless AVR is unclear; therefore, we compared the EuroSCORE prediction with our results in this patient population. METHODS One hundred thirty-two patients with a logistic EuroSCORE of at least 10 (mean, 25) unde...
